    Can plaquenil cause alopecia

If so, does the hair loss subside after a while or will continue to fall out? I thought Plaquenil is supposed to help with hair loss , not promote it Hi JPCA Sorry to hear about the negative effects you are experiencing from this drug. My hair loss seemed to get better after time, it is by far not thick as it was, but sure not as thin either.

I was on plaquenil for a brief time. I developed an allergic reaction to it. It is an aggressive medication that affects your vision, but it doesn't make you regrow your hair. Through regulated healthy eating, natural hair products, and vitamins, your hair can grow long and thick again. But, it does take time. Plaquenil is supposed to help with hair loss, not contribute to it. I would also suggest giving it some more time especially since the side effects of plaquenil are supposed to lessen after a few months of use. I decided to give Plaquenil a go though, and I have been on it for 2 weeks. You are supposed to have a blood test every month to check on your liver and kidneys as long term use can affect them. I was told also to keep an eye out for 'floaters' in my eyes, as Plaquenil can cause macular damage to your retinas.

You should have been informed of the side effects which include: irritability, nervousness, emotional changes, nightmares, convulsions, nerve deafness, muscle weakness, blurred vision, light flashes, edema, bleaching of hair, alopecia, aplastic anaemia, anorexia and nausea. It took about 4 months to reap the full benefits from it, and I have had a few flares, but Plaquenil made me feel so much better!! I too have suffered drastic hairloss due to Lupus and it's for this precise reason that I am not taking the drug. The Plaquenil helped with my symptoms so much so that I would not want to be without it.

  6. I wasn't sure if it was the plaquenil or all the bleaching and coloring if done in the past couple years, so I can't be for sure which was the cause of my hair loss. It seems that it's leveled out, back to normal loss. Though I did stop bleaching my new growth. I'm taking a multivitamin with biotin, plus I got a natural biotin conditioner to help.

Parasites that cause malaria typically enter the body through the bite of a mosquito. Malaria is common in areas such as Africa, South America, and Southern Asia. I did not experience hair loss, but my straight hair got quite wavy and i never figured out if it was plaquenil or menopause that caused that change. Initially my eyebrows and eye lashes bleached out, but returned to normal color after 2 years or so.
